A Village for Independent and Enterprising Women – A VIEW – is an unlocked residential rehabilitation model unit for destitute women with mild to moderate psychiatric illness, where residents can find community and hope, learn survival and vocational skills, and eventually become independent and earn a living. The project was conceived as a viable alternative to both the ‘total hospitalization model’ and the ‘total home-based treatment’ for psychiatric treatment and is designed to eliminate the drawbacks of these models.
